This collection of writing by artist, Aria Dean, traverses philosophy, critical theory, and visual art to dismantle the structural limitations placed onto Black aesthetics. In Bad Infinity (2023), she posits ideas of Black art/thinking that focuses on a metaphysical locale. She asserts that “Black art that luxuriates in its outside-the-world-ness.” In exploring Blackness as theorized in new media art, I am interested in traversing the dilemmas of the existing aesthetic and intellectual world as well as the possibilities of the “outside.”
