Dr. Chari Glogovac-Smith

Dr. Chari Glogovac-Smith works in video, sound, performance, and digital art. Smith’s ongoing series Selfhood activates their digitally rendered body-double in videos and live performances that sample Black archival and vernacular media. The artist has designed and tweaked their avatar in pursuit of mirroring their earthly form. While they get progressively closer to their actual likeness, they explore the ways that it is impossible to make a machine fully human.

Smith has led me to consider how artists are  reclaiming "glitches" and systematic design flaws to construct paths liberation using the very tools that work against it.
